Akita/Yamagata Oil and Gas Fields

JAPEX has been producing crude oil and natural gas at three oil and gas fields in Akita Prefecture and one in Yamagata Prefecture.

Akita Prefecture is also considered one of the areas with potential for shale oil (tight oil) development and production. To date, we have conducted shale oil (tight oil) development and production verification tests in and around some of oil and gas fields in Akita Prefecture.

Sarukawa Oil Field

Basic Information

Name (Location):　Sarukawa Oil Field (Oga City, Akita Prefecture)
Year of discovery and production: Discovered in 1958, in production from 1959
- In 2014, we conducted Japan's first tight oil development verification test using multi-stage fracturing in a horizontal well at the Fukumezawa oil field in the Sarukawa Oil Fields. The oil field is still, intermittently, producing oil.

Ayukawa Oil and Gas Field

Basic Information

Name (Location): Ayukawa Oil Field (Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture)
Year of discovery and production: Discovered in 1989, in production from 1995
- Succeeded in producing tight oil (shale oil) for the first time in Japan during an acid treatment verification test at an existing well in 2012. The oil and gas field is still/intermittently producing oil.
